Asheley, His Good Soil writer and creator

Hi!  My name is Asheley!

Wife to Chris.
Longing to be a mother.
Physician assistant.
A lover of NYC.
Follower of Jesus.
A woman trying to live intentionally with purpose.

I became a Christian in 2008 at 26 years old.  Wild story which I will share!  Recently, I have been looking for Christian blogs for some encouragement.  I have found many beautiful ones.  Many written by women who went to Bible school.  I did not.  A lot written by pastors’ wives.  I am married to a wonderful man who is a music teacher, photographer, and food blogger .  Many of these women got married at a young age and are stay at home moms.  I got married at 30 and work full time (and then some) as a physician assistant.  So many of these writers live in the south or midwest.  I live on Long Island and spend my free time in the city I love: New York City.

I quickly became friends with many beautiful women of faith on Instagram.  They were spreading the Word of God through their blogs, and I felt a nudge on my heart to do the same… in this fast-paced, crazy place we call NYC.  Amidst my stressful work schedules until 1AM.  And insanely busy social calendar (it seems like we have a party to go to every week!).  My life of fighting hours of gridlock traffic on the LIE and dodging potholes on the parkway.  My life of knowing full well that I’m surrounded by millions of people who don’t know Christ.  I want to be a voice for the normal woman living in New York: a woman just trying to follow Jesus, love on others, and help bring people to the Lord while trying to survive this chaos.

Why hisgoodsoil.com? The verse that changed my heart is Luke 8:15 “But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.”   As best as I can, I will commit to at least one posting a week (remember: busy New York woman here.)  They will be on Wednesdays.  I will call them Ashe Wednesdays (I like puns).  This will be specifically for a weekly devotional, thought, or challenge.  Of course I will try to write as often as I can with inspirational stories, bible studies, or just things I like!  But, I figured for this first time blogger, one post a week seemed pretty manageable!

I have to admit right from the start that I am not a native New Yorker.  I moved to Long Island from Massachusetts.  I did grow up on a little farm in the middle of nowhere.  So, trust me when I say, I know first hand that slow country living and fast paced big city living are completely different.  But I am no farm girl.  My whole life I longed to move to a city.  I lived an urban area in Mass for a few years during undergrad and then made the big move to LI for grad school.  After graduating, I had to decide when to go.  Do I move back close to my parents, stay around here, or pick up to another part of the country to start my new career in medicine?  It was the food and atmosphere of NYC that made me decide to stay.  There is nowhere else in the country like it.  I don’t care what other big city you pick, there is no place that has everything that New York does!  I made the right decision.  4 months after deciding to stay here, I met my husband through friends at church.  We got married in July of 2012.  And yes, we had a big fancy wedding (because that’s what happens on Long Island).  Since then, we have been doing our best trying to follow God’s plan for our life together.  I can’t wait to share what I have learned along the way.
