Reflecting Him

Puddle

This thought came across my mind while on my run the other day (anything to keep my mind away from the desire to stop running.)  Seeing a large puddle in the middle of a baseball field made me reflect… about my life reflecting His and how we really do that.  What does it mean to “be like Him”?  Don’t worry, I don’t always go so deep.  Most runs are usually me just singing along to music and telling myself “Just a little further, don’t stop, you aren’t tired yet.”

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”  Genesis 1:27

Seek. Matthew 6:33

Seek.As you have learned, I am a bit of a nerd.  So, what sounds nerd-ier than a word study?

Seriously, there is a lot to learn from the origins of words.  God can reveal something to you that you wouldn’t have seen before.

One day I was praying, and the Lord led me to Matthew 6:33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

I thought, Ok God… I’m here, I’m praying.  I know You, you know me.  Where are all the things?

Then I pondered, am I doing this right?  What does He mean “seek”?  Am I seeking or am I wanting?

My New Prayer

20130812_094954 (1)

My church had their women’s retreat recently.  It’s always a relaxing weekend to reconnect with God.  I wanted desperately to hear from Him… something…. anything…. He answered!

There was a little prayer room with a dozen or so little stations with questions or ideas to think about and pray on.  Before I went in I prayed “God, can You talk to me in here?  Just let me know something.”  I was not asking for a big life changing moment, just wanted a little tidbit.  As you walk around to each station, you can see and hear women breaking down in tears around the room.  I had nothing.  Not a single glistening tear.  I kept at it.  Praying earnestly at each area.

Then it happened!  I don’t even remember what the prompt was that brought it on, it wasn’t a life altering-break down in tears-type thing, but the Lord brought me new peace.

Getting Burned

Big Apple BBQ We are literally hours before we have to be completely moved out of this house… but it is Ashe Wednesday and I just had to get this post up before walking out the front door for the last time! Have you ever gone through those times where you just yell out “God, seriously!  Why me? Again! C’mon!”  I know I was crying this out just last night.  Then this scripture and story comes to mind and it makes me smile :)

Nehemiah Chapter 13

Book of NehemiahLast chapter!

Wow! That flew by.  I pray that God revealed some awesome things to you as He did for me.

Last chapter and He is still showing some amazing stuff through Nehemiah!

One little sentence right in the beginning made me smile.  When talking about how the god of the Ammonites and Moabites (Balaam) would call a curse down on the people:  “(Our God, however, turned the curse into a blessing.)” (v2)  I can’t even count how many times something happened that I thought was bad or just not what I wanted, and it turned out to be even better than what I even dreamed.  He uses all things for His glory.

Anchors in the storm. Post from Our Daily Bread 5/21/14

I told you that the word “steadfast” has been coming up for me a lot.  This is today’s daily devotional on Our Daily Bread.

When Matt and Jessica tried to navigate their sailboat into a Florida inlet during Hurricane Sandy, the craft ran aground. As the waves crashed around them, they quickly dropped anchor. It held the sailboat in place until they could be rescued. They said that if they had not put down the anchor, “We would have lost our boat for sure.” Without the anchor, the relentless waves would have smashed the vessel onto the shore. [Read more...]

Nehemiah 11 & 12

Book of NehemiahNehemiah Chapters 11 & 12

Home stretch here…

Nehemiah knows that great things will be done in this city and it needed to be populated to stay safe.  “Now the leaders of the people settled in Jerusalem,” (v1) “The people commended all the men who volunteered to live in Jerusalem.” (v2)  Everyone knew that this place was going to be a target.  It has been destroyed before and now with the wall rebuilt, it would be a target again.  Yet, some people still volunteered to be the ones to lead and protect.  What risk takers!  These people gave up these nicer houses and land to live in an area that had been decimated.  They were sacrificing themselves and their comfort for a bigger purpose. Book of NehemiahNehemiah Challenge: Chapter 5 and 6!

How are you doing so far?

This next chapter is meaningful to me because I have a passion to help the poor and needy.  I am in the city where people can live in astronomically expensive penthouse high rise towers and still over 54,000 people sleep in the city run shelters.
